A walk through the Sant Gervasi Cemetery

Guided visit to the Sarrià cemetery, where, through the most representative graves, the most relevant historical, social and cultural facts of Barcelona's recent history and its most illustrious characters are revealed. In addition, a critical view of societies and their organization is encouraged, death is discussed naturally throughout the visit and understanding and respect for artistic and cultural heritage is promoted.

The first writings that refer to this cemetery date back to 1922, a year after the annexation of Sarrià to Barcelona. However, we know that from 1835 they began to be buried there, since the royal order forbade burying more in the parish graves, and it was in 1849 that the enclosure was built, according to the projects of its architect Francesc Renat and Arús. This was the most important Catalan town planner before Ildefons Cerdà.
