A walk through the Cemetery of the Courts

Guided visit to Les Corts cemetery, where, through the most representative graves, the most relevant historical, social and cultural facts of Barcelona's recent history and its most illustrious characters are revealed. In addition, a critical view of societies and their organization is encouraged, death is discussed naturally throughout the visit and understanding and respect for artistic and cultural heritage is promoted.

At the end of the 18th century, in the Barcelona Plan there were a series of independent towns that made up a basically rural landscape, especially the town of Les Corts, which belonged to the old municipality of Sarrià, since it did not have its own parish and in at that time it was essential to enjoy autonomy. The parish, together with the cemetery and the neighbourhood, was what gave meaning to collective life at the time, and everything revolved around it.
The first modern cemetery that the town of les Corts had was built in 1845 and was located on the same grounds as the current cemetery, which were owned by the Cuyàs family, landowners very influential in the life of the people of Corts of the time In 1932, the city's first Hebrew precinct was also built there.
